Introduction:
Agriculture is a dynamic and diverse industry. Agriculture development increasingly depends on the application of Science and technology to sustain efficient food production simultaneously responding to the environmental and ethical standards demanded of it by society.
Afghanistan is an agricultural nation. The Agriculture sector is the largest production sector in the country and the majority of the people of Afghanistan depend either directly or indirectly engaged in agriculture.
It becomes imperative to educate and coach the upcoming generation in the field of agriculture to meet the day to day challenges.
Faculty of agriculture is a unique and specialized faculty, with the goal of imparting research based agricultural education to the young aspirants of different provinces of Afghanistan.
At this faculty great emphasis is placed on the development of practical scientific skills and experience in all field of Agriculture. It offers an extensive choice of subjects under the guidance of very progressive, talented and devoted faculty members who are always ready to cope with far teaching challenges in agriculture and its related disciplines.
Graduated of this faculty have been playing a leading and vital role in rehabilitation of agriculture different professional field farming and research oriented engagements.

History:
Faculty of agriculture was established in 1956 under the name of (Faculty of Agriculture and Engineering).
 After 2 years was set up as a separate and unique faculty in 1958. According to the curriculum there was only general agriculture option until 1966. After that time three options and departments (Animal Sciences, Plant Sciences and Agr—Economics and Extension) were established.
In 1980 academic structure of the faculty developed six Departments and options:
1. Departments of Agronomy.
2. Department of Agr-economics and Extension.
3. Departments of Animal husbandry.
4. Departments of Horticulture and Forestry.
5. Departments of Plant protection.
6. Departments of Soil Sciences, Agro chemistry and irrigation.

Activities:
Before 1979 Agriculture faculty had more than 70  academic staff members who were mostly educated in the United States , and had higher educational degrees,10 well-equipped Laboratories, a well –stoked library two experimental farms, Agricultural machinery workshop.
Unfortunately due to the civil war in Afghanistan majority of the academic staff left the country and all the facilities and equipments of the faculty have been completely destroyed and looted.
After the regime of Taliban renovation and reconstruction of the faculty started.
Many countries, international and national organizations took active part in this rebuilding process.
The assistance and cooperation of World Bank, Pardue University, JICA, French cooperation Dep., Arizona University Illinois University, DAAD, ICARDA and USDA, USAID capacity Building Project are prominent and considerable.
At the present faculty of agriculture have six active departments, abut 1000 students of which 10 % are females. 40 %  Professors and  lectures are involving in teaching.

Departments and Academic members:
The active departments are:
Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension
Department of Agronomy
Department of Animal husbandry
Department of Plant Protection
Department of Forestry and Natural resources
Department of Horticulture

1. Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension:
Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension was established in 1966.
This department prepares students to analyze economic problems systemically and objectively, and to come up with practical solutions.
Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension offers an introductory and advances courses in Agriculture Economics and Extension and development issues. For agriculture development of a country the presence of strong linkages amongst institution building, human resource development are and technology transfer are highly important.
Academic staff members of the mentioned department are (7) Professors and lecturers.
Head of Department: Professor .Nasratullah. Akabarzad.

1. Department of Agronomy:
Plant Sciences was the only major parent department, when faculty of agriculture started its activities in 1958. The Plant Sciences option give birth to several other branches in 1980, and Agronomy department established.
The agronomy department aims at providing quality academic training in crop production, crop physiology and seed technology, and also offers different courses, this department has (9) academic staff members.

2. Department of Animal husbandry:
The main objective of this department are to prepare graduates with the required knowledge in the area of Animal husbandry, livestock management and animal breeding to enable them to meet the nation challenges and to conduct research on various aspects of livestock management to help farmers and train students in research methodology.
 This department was established in 1966 and has (9) staff members.
Head of department: Professor Obaidullah.Akberi

3. Department of Plant Protection:
The beauty around us comes from plants; however, people want to know more a bout how to grow plants and keep them healthy. Anything that affects the health of plants is likely to affect their growth and yield.
Plants suffer from diseases and insect pests. The department of Plant Protection was established in 1981.
The department offer courses in area of Plant pathology and Economical Entomology.
The department of Plant protection has got one well equipped laboratory, the facilities available to students include good qualify microscopes, access to different group of insects for morphological and taxonomic studies and equipments used for diagnosis of plant diseases.
The academic staff members of this department are (6) professors and lecturers.

4. Department of Horticulture:
Horticulture crops are high value cash crops which can alleviate poverty of the farming community and at the same time can fetch foreign exchange by exporting quality products to other countries. The can only be achieved by having quality planting material and up – to – date management practices, The department aims at providing training and offer courses in production practices in various disciplines of horticulture. Department of horticulture was established in () and has (6) academics staff members.

5. Department of Forestry and Natural resources:
Department of Forestry and horticulture was established in 1975, but () after years the department was independ separately. This department offer courses in various disciplines of Forestry and natural resources.
 Academic staff members are (4) Professors and lecturers.
